Fluke acquires Ircon

LONDON — Spectris plc has sold its Ircon in-line instrumentation business to Fluke Electronics Corp. for $ 33 million on a debt and cash-free basis and subject to a working capital adjustment.

Ircon Inc (Niles, IL) was founded in 1962 and manufactures non-contact infrared thermometers for measuring temperature. Its products include on-line thermometers, portable handheld thermometers, line scanners for thermal profiling on web type products such as steel and glass, black body calibration systems and accessories.

The products are used to indicate and control temperatures in the glass, steel, paper, food, textile, heat treat, semiconductor and plastic industries.

Spectris (Egham, England) principal activity is developing and marketing precision instrumentation and controls and is the parent company of 14 individual businesses including Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration Transducers (Nærum Denmark), Fusion UV Systems (Gaithersburg, MD), Malvern Instruments (Malvern, England), PANalytical (Almelo, Netherlands), BTG (Eclepens, Switzerland), Servomex (Crowborough, England) and HBM (Darmstadt, Germany).

Until April 2006 it owned Arcom Control Systems Ltd (Cambridge, England) and Arcom Control Systems Inc. (Overland Park, Kansas) which were sold to Eurotech (Amaro, Italy).

Fluke (Everett, WA) has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Danaher Corp. (Washington, DC) since 1998 when it was acquired for $625 million.
