United Infrared Launches ElectricIR™-the Electrical Infrared P/PM Module
July 2011, Greensboro, NC – United Infrared, Inc. (UI) announces the launch of its newest application module, ElectricIR™.ElectricIR™ is a network of infrared thermographers who provide infrared surveys of electrical equipment. United Infrared is the largest network of multi-disciplined infrared thermographers in the world and provides application-specific training for contractors who want to add infrared applications to their business, and enjoy on-going business and marketing support.
Electrical switchgear infrared surveying is an integral part of most facility manager’s preventive/predictive maintenance (P/PM) programs and the most popular application of infrared thermography. Infrared thermography is used to perform P/PM inspections on electrical equipment because excess resistance on electrical apparatus indicates electrical faults such as loose connections, overloaded or imbalanced circuits, faulty breakers, damaged switches, faulty fuses and a wide range of other unwanted electrical conditions. Before an electrical component burns up, it heats up. Thermography is used to see the excess heat (resistance) so that problems can be found and maintenance personnel can act to correct the problem before the component fails, causing damage to the component, safety hazards and/or production downtime.
“The beauty of ElectricIR™ is that the methodologies, the quality control and the reports are all standardized,” states Greg Stockton, President of United Infrared, Inc. “This means a national company has one point of contact, one standard pricing structure, and will receive a high-quality survey and report at any of their facilities sites, anywhere in the USA”, he concludes.
UI recently announced the appointment of Dr. Robert “Bob” Madding as the Technical Director of ElectricIR™. As Technical Director, Dr. Madding will provide training and technical support for all of the ElectricIR™ member contractors. He has been a practicing infrared thermographer since 1972 and is considered a pioneer within the infrared industry. “The appointment of Dr. Madding as Technical Director of this service module will ensure that all of our ElectricIR™ Member Contractors will receive the highest level of training available and therefore, our customers will receive the highest level of service available,” states Peter Hopkins, Vice President and Managing Partner of UI.
