2009 Edition of NFPA 70E Now Available
~ Thermographic imaging specifically addressed ~
Quincy, MA October 1, 2008 The National Fire Protection Association has announced that the 2009 Edition of NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is now available. Copies of NFPA 70E may be purchased by telephone or online.
Since 1979, the National Fire Protection Association has published NFPA 70E. Since its initial publication, this safety standard has been updated periodically and expanded. NFPA 70E is applicable to any workplace and is intended for use by employers, employees, and OSHA, among others.
Last updated in 2004, the current edition of NFPA 70E has been expanded and contains several changes and additions. Chief among these are:
- New requirements for Fire Rated clothing for H/R Category 1 precludes the use of cotton clothing
- An expanded Table in Article 130 covers added tasks such as thermographic imaging
- Expanded requirements for multi-employer relationships address potential areas of oversight and improve contractor communication about electrical hazards
- New recordkeeping requirements for training and safety program audits answer OSHA’s need for records and ensure data is available when needed
