Burlington, NJ  September 14, 2026 – Infraspection Institute announced today a new Level I certification course for infrared thermographers.  Infrared Inspection of Electrical Systems focuses on infrared inspections of electrical systems and components and is geared toward electricians and maintenance professionals whose infrared inspection activities do not extend beyond electrical equipment.  The new course is available through Infraspection Institute’s Distance Learning Program or regularly scheduled in-person classes.

Jim Seffrin, Director of Infraspection Institute had this to say: “Responding to numerous client requests, we have developed our new course to provide students with information necessary to accurately and safely conduct infrared inspections of energized electrical equipment.  Infrared Inspection of Electrical Systems draws upon proven content from our Level I courses while maintaining a focus on a this widely practiced application.”

Infrared Inspections of Electrical Systems is a 16-hour theory and application course for the use of thermal imaging to locate and evaluate problems in electrical distribution systems. This course covers infrared theory, heat transfer concepts, equipment operation and selection, standards compliance, image analysis, and report generation.
Students are trained to identify and document thermal patterns caused by improper design, workmanship, or material failure.

Course completion and passing grade on the certification exam qualify students to use the Infraspection Institute Electrical Thermographer seal.  They may also matriculate directly to an Infraspection Institute online or in-person Level II course.
