ASTM Reapproves Infrared Standards
West Conshohocken, PA August 18, 2005— The American Society for Testing & Materials has announced reapproval of Standards E 1933 and E 1934 in the August 2005 edition of their magazine, ASTM Standardization News. Both Standards will be published in Volume 03.03 of the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, 2005 edition.
The documents, E 1933 Standard Test Methods for Measuring and Compensating for Emissivity Using Infrared Imaging Radiometers and E 1934 Standard Guide for Examining Electrical and Mechanical Equipment with Infrared Thermography are based upon Guidelines originally developed and published by Infraspection Institute in 1990. Both Standards were originally published by ASTM in 1997 and are two of a series of Standards that are based upon Infraspection Institute’s Guidelines for infrared thermography.
According to Jim Seffrin, Director of Infraspection Institute, “We are pleased to see these Standards reapproved. These standards and the Infraspection Guidelines on which they are based are used by thermographers and end users worldwide as the standards for the conduct of infrared inspections in a broad range of facilities and industries”.
Mr. Seffrin adds, “Infraspection Institute is proud of our past and continuing contributions to standards development. We look forward to working with ASTM to maintain existing standards for thermography and to develop new ones as our industry continues to grow”.
